How does one request a ride to a medical/health service appointment?

You can call using the toll free 211 helpline or dial 1-877-211-8667. OR fill out the online form at least 4 days before an appointment.

Some things to keep in mind when making reservations.

Hours of Service: Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM

FISH requires four business days’ notice for in-county rides and at least one week for rides outside Tompkins county. The more notice you give, the better chances that we can find a driver for you.

The ride is free – donations to help keep FISH viable are welcome – but the ride is not dependent on a donation.

FISH is an all volunteer organization. FISH makes every effort to match a request for a ride with a driver but occasionally there are more requests than there are available drivers. The potential rider would be informed that a ride could not be accommodated for that date and/or time. Calls on weekends are referred to the Monday telephoner.

FISH provides rides to medical and health related services within Tompkins County.

FISH is currently providing rides to out of county medical appointments as volunteer drivers are available.

FISH cannot accommodate wheelchairs – please call GADABOUT for assistance.

FISH can accept fold up walkers and the driver may provide some assistance; such as, a protective arm to guide the client from the car to the appointment.

Infants and Children must have the age appropriate car seat and must be accompanied by an adult.

Drivers may cancel a ride when the driver deems conditions, usually weather related, are unsafe to drive.

The client should take the drivers telephone number and call that person directly if an appointment is cancelled or if a ride is no longer needed.

Only existing FISH clients can book rides through the online system.

If you have never used FISH before, please call 2-1-1 or 877-211-8667 M-F 8:30-5 so that we can create a rider profile for you.

We will not honor any ride requests from this form for new clients.
